Allie Adams is the designer behind Doris Ruth. With her Spring 2004 collection debut, Doris Ruth was featured in Women's Wear Daily's "Ones to Watch" section. The line was recognized as one of Gen Art's "Fresh Faces" for 2003, and was recently honored again in 2005. In 2006, Adams was awarded the Rising Star award for emerging apparel designer by Fashion Group International.
Decorative detailing on vintage-inspired, flirty pieces provides the foundation for Doris Ruth. A tribute to Adam's grandmother, Doris, the collection is inspired by female icons that have enriched her life and influenced her sense of style. “I am constantly looking for feminine elegance to be communicated through the pieces. Even the casual tanks and camis have an element of charm and gracefulness," says Adams.
A University of Minnesota graduate, with a focus in textile and design, Adams began her relentless love affair with the fashion industry at a young age; before her sixth birthday she was a subscriber to Vogue. Her Barbie infatuation coupled with her obsession with fashionable pop culture grew fervently into a fascination with design. A competitive figure skater for 12 years, her earliest work began as a costume designer: Competitive skating dresses with intricate crystal beading. Adams is inspired by the pairing of unpredictable and unusual textures, has a passion for all that glitters, and an admiration for the nonconforming. Doris Ruth offers the distinctive yet simple sophistication that any femme fatale can truly appreciate.
